On March 6, the Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Luang Prabang held a reception to celebrate International Women's Day 2026. Consul General Zhang Sheping and his wife, Du Xiaoxi, Deputy Consul General Zhang Hequn (President of the Consulate General's Women's Association), representatives of women from the six northern provinces of Luang Prabang Province, Laos, including Vice President of the Luang Prabang Provincial Government, Wan Vilay, representatives from the Vietnamese Consulate General in Luang Prabang, and representatives of overseas Chinese and women from Chinese-funded institutions in the consular district attended the event.

Representatives from both China and Laos introduced the achievements of women's development in their respective countries and called on all women to strive for self-improvement, play a more important role, dedicate themselves to poverty alleviation and reduction, maintain peace, and jointly build a gender-equal and inclusive society. Both sides expressed their commitment to taking the 65th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Laos and the China-Laos Friendship Year as an opportunity to consolidate traditional friendship, expand friendly exchanges and pragmatic cooperation in the field of women's affairs, and contribute women's wisdom and strength to building a China-Laos community with a shared future.

Consul General Zhang Sheping was interviewed by Luang Prabang Radio and Television Station at the event and extended holiday greetings to women from all walks of life in the consular district.
