Laos is about to enter its rainy season, during which thunderstorms and heavy rainfall will significantly increase. The rainy season in Laos generally lasts from April to October. Heavy rainfall during this period may lead to inconveniences in production and daily life, or pose safety hazards. The Chinese Consulate General in Luang Prabang hereby reminds Chinese citizens and institutions in Laos, as well as Chinese tourists visiting Laos, to pay attention to safety during the rainy season.
I. Closely monitor weather conditions and check local weather forecasts promptly. Minimize or avoid travel during adverse weather conditions.
II. Prioritize traffic safety. Understand local road conditions in advance, plan your journeys meticulously, and prepare for rain and heat when going out. Roads during the rainy season are slippery and muddy. Please try to avoid driving in areas with poor road conditions, such as mountainous regions, and do not venture into areas with a high risk of disasters like mudslides and landslides. In case of emergencies, please seek assistance from local police or the Consulate General promptly.
III. Ensure safety in dining and travel. The rainy season is hot and humid, making food prone to spoilage. Please choose reputable restaurants for dining and be cautious when trying raw food. When traveling, select licensed tour operators, fasten your seatbelt when on a vehicle, wear a life jacket when on a boat, and exercise caution when participating in high-risk activities such as mountain climbing, rafting, forest trekking, and hot air ballooning.
IV. Implement mosquito prevention and control measures. Epidemic diseases such as dengue fever and malaria are prevalent during the rainy season. Take precautions against mosquito bites and ensure you have adequate medication. If you experience symptoms such as fever or muscle pain, seek medical attention promptly to avoid delays.
